Our Founder -- Sam Patterson

It is fair to say that I have grown up in the transportation management business.  My father, Jack Patterson, was in the business of providing third-party logistic services for over 50 years, dating back to 1948.  My Dad loved the business.  It was in his blood since the time I was born and up until his passing in May of 2009.  At the age of 81, my Dad was still working for the Patterson Companies and managing shipments out of California and Arizona.

Not only did I learn the transportation management business from my Dad, I more importantly learned the importance of treating people fairly and with respect.  It is his values and standards of integrity that have guided the Patterson Companies since I founded them in 1985.

We pride ourselves on the fact that many of our customers and carriers have been part of the Patterson family for several decades.  Our relationships are strong and our stories are many.  Though every business exists to generate revenues and profits, it has given me a great sense of accomplishment to also realize that the American dream is always about the many special and unique people you have the pleasure of encountering along the way.

After 20 years at the helm of the Patterson Companies, I relinquished my day-to-day responsibilities in 2006 when Steve Howard became our president.  I still remain an equity partner in the business and am an active member of our Advisory Committee and Board of Directors.
